A loonnggg day of football

But first, we went last night to the John Paul Jones Arena or JPJ at UVa for a basketball game against American, which we easily won. The coach for American however played for UVa so he got a warm reception...I wonder if the reception would have been so warm if we had not won so easily!!!

Today is a host of really good bowls, including Music City (Go UK), Liberty (Go Cocks!), Insight (Go Texas Tech), and Champs Sports (as much as it pains me, go Maryland....of course if I have a cocktail or two before 8 PM eastern, I may change my mind about this!). The Insight Bowl is on the NFL Network which is channel 212 on Richmond's DirecTV, but most people do not get it. That was a problem last night with Rutgers' game which was also on NFL, but I think folks in New York & New Jersey got a week for free to watch it so they wouldn't miss their game!

Tonight is a West Avenue cocktail party...very exciting. Every time I come up here I think I want to move back. I would get to run down Monument Avenue every day & look at the parade of decorations go up for Halloween, Christmas & Easter.

Alright, 10 minutes until the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl.

Merry Christmas

So I did Christmas Part I in rainy Richmond. Part I being with my inlaws, and Part II being tomorrow with my parents in Williamsburg. I got lots of good loot, including a purple Lacoste, a leaf blower, poker chips, a Farmer's Almanac, this weather thing that shows temperature, humidity & barometric pressure, Woodford Reserve, Knob Creek & Grand Marnier, other assorted things from Brooks Brothers, etc., etc.

It's rainy & cold here in Richmond after a beautiful & unseasonably warm Christmas Eve. Tomorrow is supposed to be better: cloudy & in the 50's. Thursday is the Uva/American game at the JPJ which will be really fun.

My parents are arriving in about an hour for dinner....too bad there is no football on until the Cowboys play TO's old team, Philadelphia, at 5, and then the Jets play MIA on the last Monday Night football of the year (and the last Monday of the year for that matter).

Merry Christmas!

It's Christmas Eve and we're soon off to the 7 PM service (not the 11:30 because it's too late & we had a late night of partying last night).

Westlake lost to Southlake Carroll last night...Carroll hasn't lost a game since 2002 with the exception of the 2003 State Championship. argh, but oh well!

Who knew? Westlake got a new stadium

Westlake plays Houston Pearland high (a South Houston/Brazoria County suburb) this weekend at A&M's Kyle Field for the state semi-finals. If we win, we get a trip to the Alamodome to play either Southlake Carroll (DFW) or Allen (vaguely a Dallas suburb).

What I didn't know is that Chaparral Stadium was demolished in 2001 to build Westlake Chaparral Stadium at Ebbie Neptune (former athletic director) Field. It looks like this, including "ChapVision", Astroturf with our logo in the middle and name in red in the endzones, double the seating, and new luxury pressboxes. Some say it's up to the standards of a collegiate stadium.

Other than that nothing new. Because it is warm today the Weather Channel is showing endless commercials from Heidi Cullen's The Climate Code...I think there is some global warming, but sheesh...it was FREEZING last week.

Finally, for all you Friday Night Lights watchers, it is moving to Wednesdays at 8 PM EST starting on December 27, with new episodes as of January 10, 2007.

Old School big-bulb Christmas lights are the new white lights?

So the old-school C7/C9 colored lights are apparently all the rage again. A house in our neighborhood has them lining the porch and a window & it looks really cool, especially since our houses look kind of old-school anyway. I bet they use a lot of electricity though, but maybe not since there are 25 of those & 100 on a mini-light strand.

Apparently the little tiny bulb lights are pretty popular now too, but I'd not really seen those anywhere yet. Maybe I'll have to incorporate those into the plan next year, although I'm starting to get partial to my rope lights.
