Mardi Gras Friday!

Today is the "Greasing of the Poles" at the Royal Sonesta...meaning that the Sonesta, at the corner of Bourbon & Bienville in the heart of the French Quarter, makes a big production of taking a well dressed hotel employee with a jar of Vaseline, and having another employee literally grease the poles so that revelers won't climb up those poles to get up on the balconies, where high-paying guests are enjoying the "views". It's only partially for security now-a-days, and it's almost more a Mardi Gras tradition, taking place at 10 AM on Mardi Gras Friday every year.
