This is How We Do...
Well, it's exactly one week until Mardi Gras day. Starting to get excited, and really wishing I was going down, especially since my sister has plans to do the same. It's going to be cold this weekend down there though...lows in the lower 40's & highs in the 60's. It should be in the mid to high 60's this time of year, since this is one of the "later" Mardi Gras (for instance next year everything will be done by February 5). The date for Mardi Gras can be anywhere from February 3 to March 9 (lasting between 28 & 62 days), meaning that day could be as cold as 19 in the morning to as hot as 83, but more typically between 63 & 71 for daily highs.
As kind of a joke we submitted our door to the New Orleans Time-Picayune to go in the section where people from around the country can submit their Mardi Gras photos...funny thing is they published it! (see picture 7 of 13).
There is a slight chance of snow for Saturday night, but it's looking more doubtful...of course the best snowstorms here seem to be a surprise, so may that's a good thing. We are running out of time though. The Superstorm of 1993 occurred March 13-15, so if we don't get something by the second weekend of March (10th & 11th), I'd say we're done for the year. That one was a big surprise though & no one believed that the South would actually get freezing rain & snow. Of course, if we do get something that weekend, I don't think I'm going to be able to put out pine straw like I was planning!
